My Addition to Homer's IliadThis story describes the celebration following the return of Chryseis to Chryses, her father. There is a great feast and merry-making. In this addition to Homer’s epic (The Iliad), we see an exemplary example of xenia when a wandering traveler is welcomed to the merry-making. While the stranger has no effect on the war with the Trojans, he serves as a sort of entertainer to the banquet. His feats of amazing strength serve as a distraction from the traumatic event of Chryseis’s imprisonment.
